Kumaratunga Munidasa was born on 25 July 1887.He was a renowned Sri Lankan scholar, poet, linguist, and nationalist who devoted his life to the revival and purity of the Sinhala language.

He strongly believed that language was the foundation of national identity and worked tirelessly to protect Sinhala from foreign influence.Munidasa founded the Hela Havula movement to promote indigenous culture, literature, and linguistic pride.

Through his poetry, essays, and grammatical works, he inspired generations to value their mother tongue.He was not only a writer but also a disciplined thinker who emphasized moral integrity and cultural self-respect.

Kumaratunga Munidasa remains an enduring symbol of Sinhala literary renaissance and national consciousness.Kumaratunga Munidasa passed away on 2 March 1944.
